High-rise with retail will join Eatzi’s store in Dallas’ Oak Lawn neighborhood | Real Estate | Dallas News
Coutant said the developer considered relocating a store for Eatzi’s in the new retail addition.
“Eatzi’s was worried about going dark for a couple-year period,” Coutant said. “That’s their flagship store.
“We worked hard to keep them where they are because they are a convenience-driven business,” he said. “They need a lot of parking, and we are going to incorporate a lot of that in our project.”
StreetLights partner Tom Bakewell said the popular food and beverage store is a plus for the company’s project.
“We view Eatzi’s as an amenity to the neighborhood — we want to keep them in place,” Bakewell said.
To build the project, StreetLights Residential will need a zoning change to allow for taller construction. Other nearby towers are of similar height as the proposed project. “There is precedent for that height,” Coutant said.
StreetLights Residential is Dallas’ most experienced high-rise apartment developer.
The company is just finishing construction on its 23-story Christopher tower at the Union project north of downtown. And StreetLights has topped out its 26-story Hamilton apartment tower in the Deep Ellum neighborhood.
