And if you’re dreaming of that new ‘home office’ being in the country, you could save a stack of cash on real estate.
While the average price of a Sydney home nudges $1 million, you can buy a house in many parts of Australia for less than $100,000.
You’ll be surprised by the quality on offer, with many of these real estate bargains liveable, not a knock-down rebuild.
All of these homes are currently listed for sale across Australia.
Properties for auction have not been included.
Elders Real Estate is selling 14 Baillieu Street, Rosebery, for just $85,000.
The three-bedroom home has a tenant on a 12-month lease paying $165 per week.
That’s far more than the $98 a week you would have to pay on the mortgage if you borrowed the entire $85,000.
The house has a brand new kitchen, timber floors and solid windows.
But it does need a little bit of TLC on the kitchen ceiling.
Rosebery is a mining town that is fast making itself known for tourism, particularly around mountain biking.
It has the steepest golf course in Australia and is close to the famous Cradle Mountain National Park.
Broken Hill, NSW
Head to the outback and you can buy a home for a less than the price of a new car.
Century 21 has listed 278 Patton Street, Broken Hill, for sale for $60,000.
The two-bedroom home has a spacious living room and a formal dining room.
The kitchen is original 70s style, as is the carpet in the lounge.
The backyard has several raised garden beds where you could grow your own vegetables.
If you bought this house, your total mortgage, without a deposit, would be around $70 a week.
Patton Street isn’t the only house you can buy for under $100K in Broken Hill.

Century 21 also has 538 Wolfram Street for sale for $70,000 and 358 Kaolin Street for $90,000.
Ray White has 247 Boughman Street for $98,000.
Broken Hill is an inland mining city, but it is also a magnet for tourists and artists looking to capture the essence of the Australian outback.
Mount Morgan, Queensland
Mount Morgan is a historic mining town on the Dee River, 40 minutes from Rockhampton.
Discover Real Estate listed 31 James Street Mount Morgan for sale for $90,000.
The three-bedroom home is a classic case of don’t judge a book by its cover.
The flaking paint job on the outside hides a beautiful Queenslander inside, with polished wooden floorboards and wide-sweeping balconies.
The kitchen has been partially renovated and the home has an enormous backyard – big enough for a proper game of cricket.
It’s listed as a holiday shack for $85,000, but 24 North Terrace is far from shabby.
The one-bedroom home is just two minutes from the River Murray and a short stroll to the local pub and deli.
It has a 3kw solar system, a large family room and secure parking.
The mortgage on this house will set you back about $100 a week.
This isn’t the only property in Blanchetown for sale for less than $100K.
You could also snap up 21 Page Drive for $70,000.
This one-bedroom home has a view of the river but it needs a little more work inside to make it comfortable.
Orange is a popular NSW town known for wine and fresh produce.
So it is surprising to find a home for under $100,000 here.
McCormack Barber has listed a two-bedroom unit at 22/124 Margaret Street for sale for $99,000.
The unit has a brand new bathroom and is just seven blocks from the CBD.
The unit was previously leased for $190 – which is more than the mortgage of $114 per week.
It may not be glamourous on the outside, but 1/86 Woods Street, Darwin, is a real bargain.
Listed for sale for just $95,000 this ground floor unit has one bedroom, one bathroom, a kitchen and dining space and a parking space.
The unit is located in the middle of the CBD, just 10 minutes walk from the famous Darwin Crocosaurus Cove.
